Happy New Year! It’s a refrain often repeated during this time of year, but it’s also a time of reflection over the past year. Sparks for Success has many things to be grateful for from 2024. Here are some of the highlights:
January: Sparks announced having received a grant from WoodNext!
February: Spring music therapy sessions got underway.
March: Several generous individuals helped us raise funds for Amplify Austin 2024!
April: World Music Therapy Week – Sparks had 6 music therapists working with our students in spring 2024!
May-July: Summer one-on-one MT sessions occurred with a student needing extra support (ongoing from the school year), along with private music lessons.
June: Sparks completed the 2023-2024 school year, having worked with 15 schools in 4 Central Texas school districts and serving 85 students.
July: Sparks hosted a local Chipotle Night fundraiser with 20+ people in attendance.
August: Sparks began Year 9!
September: Sparks partnered with a UT Bridging Disciplines Program intern for fall 2024.
October: Fall 2024 sessions began (and two new Sparks therapists began working with students, including one doing in-person sessions in a rural school!)
November: Sparks launched our first-ever online puzzle!
December: Sparks participated in gift-wrapping at BookPeople, a local Austin-area bookstore, raising funds to help with spring sessions.
Through your generous support, children of inmates are learning better ways to cope in school and life and are shifting their trajectory toward success.
Looking forward, we anticipate new opportunities and partnerships forming to help even more children of inmates develop their resilience. Stay tuned for more in 2025!
